Weapons (18)

Screen 2, Monday 8 Sep 2025, 17:15  - ends at 19:38

From Zach Cregger (who made Barbarians) it's hard to describe what genre this is. Julia Garner plays the teacher of a class of students all of whom but one go missing one night at exactly 02:17am.

We see a series of events from different perspectives which develop our understanding of the story. It starts very creepy, becomes almost dreamy and fairy tale like and has several laugh-out-loud slapstick comedy moments but also some seriously effective scary stuff.

There are references to spooky dramas like Twin Peaks and the edge-of-your-seat storytelling mixes a sense of dread and mystery with a reflection on contemporary American nightmares. Totally engaging stuff!
