The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp. Loosely based on Martin Amis' novel of the same name, the film benefits from extensive reasearch into the lives of the Hoss family, and was shot latgely on location at Auschwitz. German language with English subtitles: this is the first  British made film to win the Oscar for bestg foreign language picture.
