Margaret Fairchild, a Kansas City television meteorologist and former journalist, is suddenly possessed by an unseen force during a live weather broadcast. She speaks on air in an unearthly, cryptic alien tongue, causing immediate worldwide fascination and public panic.
Daniel Kellner, a young cybersecurity expert, discovers that he is somehow uniquely capable of understanding the broadcasted alien message. Convinced that the information belongs to all eight billion people on Earth, Daniel becomes a whistleblower, teaming up with his girlfriend Jane and a corporate defector named Hugo Wakefield to orchestrate a synchronized, worldwide "full disclosure" of the truth.
Their mission forces them into a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with Noah Scanlon, the powerful head of the shadowy Wardex corporation. Scanlon controls advanced, clandestine technologies capable of remotely manipulating human targets. He deploys aggressive and violent black ops measures to bury the transmission and maintain absolute government and corporate control over the alien encounter.
