A cold war thriller starring the wonderful Lesley Manville certainly ticks all of our boxes.
We're in Warsaw, it's 13th December 1981. Martial law has just been announced and has shut down the country. Overnight, Poland turns into a prison. Taxis have been replaced by tanks on the streets. Citizens are treated like criminals.
Visiting British Professor Joan Andrews (Lesley Manville), who had arrived in the country through a university lecture engagement, suddenly finds she is trapped. After witnessing the murder of a young student by the secret police Joan herself becomes the target, but how can she escape when what's going on around her is so darkly unfamiliar and she doesn't know who to turn to.
