Four Local Films and a Premiere

A special evening of four films all shot in and around Keswick, including two made in the Keswick Alhambra Cinema itself which will be screened for the first time tonight.

We kick off with a fascinating short film made by Paul Johnston for our friends at Bassenthwaite Train Station which we're showing to celebrate the launch of the new bakery they've opened there. It tells the story of the Keswick to Cockermouth stretch of the railway and includes drone footage of the line as well as lots of historic reference material.

Then we have the premiere of BEYOND THE EYE, made by Joe J Walker, the very same Joe who works at the cinema. You may have already heard him interviewed on BBC Radio Cumbria or seen him on BBC Look North talking about making the film. Set in the Alhambra Cinema it's a psychological drama inspired by his experience of working here. We'll recap his BBC interview as an introducion then show Joe's film.

Dan Walker is a documentary maker who followed Joe making his film, to tell the story of a young film maker and describe how a film is made and what's involved. Having watched Joe's film, we then get the first screening of Dan's documentary. So you'll be sitting in the cinema watching a documentary partly shot in the cinema about a film maker making a film in the cinema. This sounds like the plot of the sequel to Inception!

We finish the evening with another beautifully shot local film, an encore screening of GEORGE by James Appleton. Featuring Jakob Tonkin and his wondeful dog in whose honour the film is named. It's a moving story about a much loved local hero and the relationship between man and dog. If you've seen it before we're sure you'll want to see it again, and if you're a first timer then we advise bringing tissues!

So all in all we have an indulgent feel-good evening of locally made films with the usual Alhambra warm welcome for you.
