SUBTITLED SCREENINGS

Any such screenings scheduled in our programme will be listed below.

Please note that we have audio loops which can either be used with your own hearing aid or with headphones which we can lend you.

These provide amplified soundtrack, audio-description or both according to your preference.

Most major films include this facility but some smaller arthouse films and event cinema screenings do not.

Please ask for them at the kiosk.

We have three ttypes of films with subtitles at the Keswick Alhambra Cinema. You can find them all on our website by clicking WHAT'S ON in the main menu and selecting SUBTITLED SCREENINGS

1. Subtitles on screen (labelled SUBOC)

SUBOC is short for Subtitles Open Captions, meaning the subtitles (which are also known as captions in the USA) are openly visible on the screen.

2. Subtitles exist but are not on screen (we don't explicity label these as to do so would suggest to many people that the subtitles will be visible on screen)

CCAP is the term for this, standing for Closed Captions, meaning the subtitles are closed, not openly visble but accessible via a device.

At the Keswick Alhambra we have two pairs of WatchWord glasses which can display the closed captions to a user. They can be worn over ordinary glasses too.

Most major films incoude this facility, but some smaller arthouse films and event cinema screenings do not.

Please ask for them at the kiosk, you can also advise us in advance that you would like to use them which means we can have them set up and ready for you when you arrive (the set up process can take some time)

3. Foreign language films with English subtitles (labelled SUBFL)

We almost alwasy show foreign language films in the orginal language and with subtitles in English, rather than showing the dubbed version of a film.

You can search for subtitled films at the Keswick Alhambra and at all UK cinemas at www.yourlocalcinema.com
