Festival Gala: live music performance accompanying classic Chinese silent film Xi Xiang Ji (Romance of the Western Chamber), preceded by a drinks reception and Festival intro and welcome.
The screening of the 1927 Chinese silent film Xi Xiang Ji (Romance of the Western Chamber) with live musical accompaniment is the highlight of MINT 2024. The film will be introduced by film history expert Zhang Hua.
Live musical accompaniment is performed by Deborah Shaw of Aurora Engine, a Scotland-based harpist and music composer, who has composed the original electronica score for this feature through collaborations with Chinese sound recordists, incorporating diverse soundscapes from urban and rural locations in Beijing, Shanghai, Shandong, and Scottish cities.
