Michelle Fuller (Emma Stone) is the icy, high-powered CEO of a major pharmaceutical company.
Teddy (Jesse Plemons) is a beekeeper devastated by the progressive diminution of the honeybee population and blaming this on the environmental impact of the conglomerate run by Michelle.
Teddy’s conspiracy theory is that Michelle is an alien intent on destroying Earth, and he up with his trusting, innocent cousin Don to sneak into Michelle’s home, kidnap her, and keep her in his basement until she agrees to spare the planet.
There’s way more to this story than meets the eye.
The Guardian says this is a macabre and amusing new film with a predictably strong performance from Emma Stone, an intestine-shreddingly clamorous orchestral score from Jerskin Fendrix and, most importantly, a wonderful montage finale. A likely Oscar contender.
